Moving, By Boat

Many people travel all or part of the Great Loop each year. Most of them do so for fun, adventure, or to fulfill lifelong dreams. We (Bruce and Maria) just decided to move.

This spring, we sold our house in Michigan and purchased a house near Fort Myers, Fl. We could have had our boat trucked to our new home, for a nominal fee, but we decided it would be more fun to travel the rivers and Gulf of Mexico to get there.

Our route will take us from Ludington, MI where we are currently docked to our back yard on Pine Island. It’s roughly 2,000 miles from here to there. Because we are not trying to do the Great Loop and we don’t really have a deadline, we’ve decided to not worry how fast we will move ahead of time. We may take a some extended breaks along the way. We may go straight through. We may get sick of cruising on a 30 foot sailboat with about 150 square feet of interior living space and hire a truck anyway.

As long as we’re moving, and together, we’re not going to sweat the details.

Waiting for us in southwest Florida.
