As we travel on Improbable, we are always on the lookout for good breweries. It’s a fun and kind of unique experience to find a place you can visit by boat or walk to from a nearby dock. The Jamesport Brewing Company in Ludington, MI is one of those places.
Bruce and Maria have been going to Jamesport for a few years now. It’s relatively close to Bruce’s cottage (did we mention it’s for sale?), and was less than a block from our slip at Harborview this summer. The beer is good, the food is good, and it is always busy in the summer.
They have a variety of the standard brews – what Maria calls “beer flavored beer” – such as Kolsch, ESB, and IPA. In the winter they feature darker beers like their super awesome Smoky Porter. In the summer they generally have one or two wheat brews.
When we last visited, Bruce enjoyed the Blueberry Wheat, a light summer wheat with blueberries floated in the glass. Maria had the Badger Brown, which is a bit darker, but not too heavy for a summer’s evening.
We’re always open to suggestions of good brew pubs and microbreweries. If you know of any good places on the rivers between Chicago and Mobile, send them our way!
